Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove, Brisbane
OWaB will be screened in afternoon and evening sessions over three days. Screenings are divided into themed sessions:
About World Social Forum (WSF): In Brazil the story of the WSF weaves in with that of a movement for reclaiming dignity, and in Mumbai the WSF creates a rumble.
Women Power & Peace Warriors: Experience women in India as they take their destiny into their own hands, against all odds, in a story of collective strength. Then join us a journey of peace, which takes us through different landscapes, as a young man zips across the world arguing for a ceasefire day.
Amnesty International Evening: OWaB and AI presents an important collection of films, which address current human rights issues. Muslim women in the US discuss Islam and gender; in Burma indigenous peoples share knowledge and encourage education and learning against the bitterest odds; and an indigenous community in Mexico is the tolerant home to a big gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Poetry of the Inert: Women weavers from Kyrgyzstan and Guatemala and a puppeteer from Ecuador gives life to magical motifs and introduce us to their ways of life, their beliefs, and their pride. An artist from Senegal connects art, politics and philosophy.
Singing Freedom: Five powerful legendary singers from South Africa, and a rock-star trying to reach the fundamentalists in Pakistan come together in Singing Freedom to underline our common quest for freedom.
Live Experiences: Examples of hands-on attempts to make a difference abound the world over. Live Experiences brings together a few experiences of local, self-run and creative ways from India and Papua New Guinea.

Recycling Life: A selection of films that question aggressive consumption and highlights people's ability to make a living out of recycling.
We, the People: This section presents stories of people taking over and creating participatory governance. Privatisation of water and the people's response, the game of money and attempts to create another set of rules, Argentine workers' take-over of dead factories, and an altogether new kind of government in Venezuela are the issues covered in this section.
Fiesta Latina: Dust off your dancing shoes and join us for an evening of dancing and music to round off the Other World’s are Breathing Festival! Learn some basic Latin dance steps from a qualified instructor and then try them out to the music of a live band. Entry is $5 and will entitle you to nibblies and dancing, as well as a year’s membership to the QUT Film and TV Society. Thanks to Oxford Street Salsa and Caxton Street Catering. 9:00 - 10:30pm Level 3, Blsg z2, Creative Industries Precinct, QUT.
"Another world is not only possible, she's on her way.... [O]n a quiet day, if I listen very carefully, I can hear her breathing."
